Parent Strategies

Finding The Right Kind Of Help

Your child did not come with an instruction manual, and there is so much parenting advice available that it can be hard to know what is actually useful for your family.

Many parents seek support because they want to better understand their child, respond more calmly and feel less alone in the day-to-day challenges of family life.

You may relate to concerns such as:

You need a non-judgmental, confidential space to share concerns and explore strategies. We offer counselling for parents that focuses on your learning and growth as a parent and gives you reliable support without blame.

Generic advice isn’t cutting it. We provide specialised parent training ADHD strategies and techniques that are evidence-based and immediately applicable, offering clear direction.

Our approach focuses on principles and strategies to strengthen the Parent-Child relationship so that through trust, you grow together. We also offer family therapy for parents to mediate and deepen attachment within the family unit.

Parent counselling gives you a supportive, respectful space to talk openly, understand what may be happening underneath the behaviour, and learn strategies that align with your family’s values and goals.

Gaining Confidence & Connection

Mastering Emotional Regulation Strategies

Parent Coaching to Understand ADHD

We offer targeted, proven strategies to support executive function and emotional regulation challenges specific to ADHD. This means less daily conflict and equips you to anticipate and manage your child’s needs effectively, reducing your parental stress.

Developing Positive Parenting Techniques

We focus on practical, evidence-based methods to strengthen the parent-child bond while maintaining boundaries. This results in a calmer home environment and transforms tense interactions into opportunities for connection and teaching.

Resilience Parenting Strategies & Support

We support you as the parent, offering counselling for anxious parents to manage burnout and emotional strain. By building your own resilience, you become a stronger, more present, and consistent caregiver, which is the key to your child's success.

Safe, Non-Judgmental Environment

Our parent counselling room in Mount Barker provides a warm, welcoming and relaxed space built on trust and safety. This environment is the setting where you can share your true feelings without judgement and explore the strategies to help both yourself and your child.

You don’t have to feel alone in your parenting journey. Using a trusted professional can help you see the problems from the outside and try a different strategy to repair the trust.

Parent Coaching & Counselling

Supporting Parents in the Adelaide Hills

Parent counselling and coaching can be helpful when you feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure how to support your child. It can also be helpful when you simply want reassurance, fresh insight or practical strategies that are tailored to your family.

At Adelaide Hills Child and Family Therapy, we understand that every child and family is different. What works for one child may not work for another, which is why we do not rely on generic parenting advice.

Instead, we take time to understand your family dynamics, your child’s needs, your values and the challenges you are facing at home. From there, we work with you to develop strategies that feel realistic, compassionate and achievable.

Parent support may be especially helpful if your family is navigating:

  • Emotional dysregulation or meltdowns
  • Anxiety or high sensitivity
  • Behaviour challenges
  • Discipline and boundaries
  • ADHD or neurodivergence-related challenges
  • School transitions or changes in routine
  • Family separation, divorce or conflict
  • Parent stress, burnout or uncertainty
  • A desire to strengthen attachment and connection

Our goal is to help you feel more confident, capable and connected as a parent.

How it Works

Parent Coaching For Stronger Relationships

1. Free Strategy Consult

We start with a complimentary phone call to listen to your concerns and understand what kind of support you are looking for.

This may include challenges such as meltdowns, anxiety, behaviour, disconnection, family changes or uncertainty about how best to support your child.

2. Needs Assessment

We take time to understand your family’s unique circumstances, including your child’s age and stage, temperament, emotional needs, family dynamics and current routines.

This allows us to move beyond generic advice and create a support plan that is tailored to your family.

3. Skill Building Practice

We work with you to develop practical parenting strategies that can be used at home. This may include communication tools, emotional regulation support, routines, boundaries, connection strategies and ways to respond during difficult moments.

You leave sessions with clear, actionable steps that can be practised in everyday family life.

4. Review & Connection

We review what is working, refine strategies and support you to keep building confidence over time.

The aim is to help positive changes become part of your family rhythm, strengthening connection, resilience and calm across the household.

Our structured process and warm, friendly clinic space ensure effective support while respecting your family’s comfort and needs.

The Next Step

Parent Growth Through Coaching

It is common to feel nervous about reaching out. You may wonder whether the problem is “big enough”, whether you will be judged, whether coaching will actually help, or whether you should already know what to do.

You do not need to have everything figured out before asking for support.

Parent counselling can help you better understand your child, feel more confident in your responses and build strategies that support the wellbeing of your whole family.

You can start with a simple, confidential phone call. There is no pressure and no judgement, just a supportive conversation to help you understand your options.
